Meet the Maker behind Imogen Heath
MEET IMOGEN HEATH
A British textile and wallpaper designer located in the heart of Brighton, England.
Known for her artistic prints which celebrate pattern and colour, Imogen Heath has an intuitive knack for creating lively patterns through playing with structure, scale and inspiring colour palettes that just make sense!
Imogen’s background is firmly rooted in traditional textile making practices and hand crafting techniques that she learned while studying weave at university. She began honing her skills through working in print design for many brands and print houses before starting her own brand as a work-from-home solo designer. Over the past 10 years, Imogen’s studio has grown from strength to strength, now finding herself with a small team working in a bright, studio environment.
The studio champions and celebrates craftsmanship and the creative process, starting from the inception of their hand-drawn designs, through to the close relationships maintained with skilled makers and manufacturers who bring their creations to life. Each collection revolves around the themes of connection, place, and materials. Through the thoughtful use of colour and pattern, Imogen Heath Interiors craft products that establish meaningful connections with people and the spaces they are used in.
DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS
My process begins with hand sketching, drawing and painting, where ideas grow and develop from a series of inspirations. Most of the time, the process itself inspires the collection, growing and taking on new forms as I work with different mediums and get lost in the artistic journey. I tend to paint, or draw with gouache, watercolour and conte pencils. The hand drawn elements are then translated into print or weave by skilled manufactures who help us translate hand drawn idiosyncrasies to cloth, wallpaper and embroidery.
HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS?
Inspiration comes from many sources such as connection to the outdoors, the beautiful Sussex countryside and treasured moments spent at home with my family or during visits to my parents’ home in France. My mother is a painter and my family have always had a creative thread running through them, my grandparents were also interior designers. There is a personal connection that runs through all the collections I design and produce.

WE ARE A HUGE BELIEVER IN CELEBRATING THE IMPERFECTIONS! SOME PEOPLE VIEW THIS AS A FLAW FROM THE MAKER, WE WANT TO EDUCATE THEM MORE AND HELP THEM UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS PART OF THE NATURAL BEAUTY. HOW DO YOU HELP PEOPLE OVERCOME THIS THINKING?
Our products celebrate natural fibres and materials and the beauty and tactility they bring to interior design. Imperfections and the inherent characteristics of our products serve as a reminder of the human hand that crafted them. For us, these traits signify quality and luxury. Considerable time has been devoted to creating these products, and what might appear as imperfections are, in fact, certificates of authenticity, reflecting our commitment to crafting genuine products.
HOW HAVE YOU SEEN YOUR PRODUCTS USED THAT LIGHTS YOU UP, CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT IT?
Our clients are always using our products in interesting and wonderful ways. From bespoke awnings to playful hotel interiors. We have worked with designers who create playful, colour and pattern inspired rooms and spaces.
